APPROACH TO GOD
(we are conscious that we are coming into God’s presence)

Call to Worship

Praise: O For a closer walk with God

1 O for a closer walk with God, a constant, heavenly calm; a light to shine upon the road that leads me to the Lamb!

2 Where is the blessing that I knew when first I saw the Lord? Where is the soul-refreshing view of Jesus and His word?

O fire of God, come burn in me renew a holy passion. Till Christ my deepest longing be, my never-failing fountain, my never-failing fountain.

3 What peaceful hours I once enjoyed! How sweet their memory still! But they have left an aching void the world can never fill.

4 The dearest idol I have known — however much adored — help me to tear it from Your throne and worship You as Lord.

O fire of God, come burn in me renew a holy passion. Till Christ my deepest longing be, my never-failing fountain, my never-failing fountain.

5 So shall my walk be close with God, my mind serene and calm; so purer light shall mark the road that leads me to the Lamb.

Prayer of Adoration and Confession

Assurance of Pardon

Affirmation of Faith: 1 Cor 15:3-8, 20-22

We Believe –

that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to Paul, as to one abnormally born.

We Believe –

Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

THANKSGIVING
(we thank God for his faithfulness to us)

Praise & Offering: Sing Psalms 51

1 O my God, have mercy on me    in your steadfast love, I pray;   In your infinite compassion    my transgressions wipe away.  2 Cleanse me from iniquity;    wash my sin away from me.

3 For I know my own transgressions;    I can see my sinful plight.  4 You, you only, I’ve offended,    and done evil in your sight;   So your words are verified,    and your verdict justified.

5 From my birth I have been sinful—    such the nature I received—   Sinful from my first beginning    in my mother’s womb conceived.  6 Truth you look for in my heart;    wisdom to me you impart.

7 Cleanse with hyssop, purify me;    I’ll be whiter than the snow.  8 Let the bones you crushed be joyful;    may I joy and gladness know.  9 From my failure hide your face;    blot out all my wickedness.

10 Lord, create a pure heart in me,    and a steadfast mind renew.  11 Do not take your Spirit from me;    cast me not away from you.  12 Give me back the joy I had;    keep my willing spirit glad.

Foundations of Faith –      Q 43, 44, 45

Praise: You alone can rescue

Who, O Lord could save themselves,
Their own soul could heal?
Out shame was deeper than the sea;
Your grace is deeper still

Chorus
And You alone can rescue
You alone can save
You alone can lift us from the grave
You came down to find us,
Led us out of death.
To You alone belongs the highest praise

You, O Lord, have made a way,
The great divide You healed
For when our hearts were far away,
Your love went further still
Yes, Your love goes further still

Chorus 2

And You alone can rescue
You alone can save
You alone can lift us from the grave
You came down to find us,
Led us out of death.
To You alone belongs the highest praise x3

RESPONSE TO THE WORD
(we respond to the Word of God)

Prayer

Praise: O Jesus I have promised

O Jesus, I have promised, To serve Thee to the end; Be Thou for ever near me, My Master and my Friend: I shall not fear the battle If Thou art by my side, Nor wander from the pathway If Thou wilt be my Guide.

O, let me feel Thee near me: The world is ever near; I see the sights that dazzle, The tempting sounds I hear; My foes are ever near me, Around me and within; But, Jesus, draw Thou nearer, And shield my soul from sin.

O, let me hear Thee speaking In accents clear and still, Above the storms of passion, The murmurs of self-will; O, speak to reassure me, To hasten or control; O, speak, and make me listen, Thou Guardian of my soul.

O Jesus, Thou hast promised To all who follow Thee, That where Thou art in glory There shall Thy servant be; And, Jesus, I have promised To serve Thee to the end; O, give me grace to follow, My Master and my Friend.

O, let me see Thy footmarks, And in them plant mine own; My hope to follow duly Is in Thy strength alone: O, guide me, call me, draw me, Uphold me to the end; And then in Heaven receive me, My Saviour and my Friend!

Benediction
